The New York City Police Department has been using digital panoramic photographic tools to record crime scenes in 360° surround images. Since 2009 the department has employed a Panoscan camera to photograph crimes scenes providing a more detailed view of evidence in situ than that provided by normal stills.
It takes a reported 3 – 30 minutes to complete the panoramic survey of the location, much faster than the previous days for earlier technologies, and the results become available to detectives for review in only a few hours.
