Very fine underwater photography winners of the 2011 Ocean Art Photo Contest are viewable online.
The pictures shown represent some examples of how current techniques and equipment, when used by skilled, dedicated photographers, can yield views of the underwater world not commonly visible to ‘land-siders’.
In addition to the usual needs of photographic camera craft, underwater photographers face the obvious concerns of underwater pressures, water clarity, buoyancy, color shifts, flash bounce, refractive focus shifts and depth of field constraints, to name a few.
While the site is very short on technical details, (categories infer some how-to aspects: ‘Macro’, Novice dSLR, Compact Wide-Angle, etc.) the images are well worth a look.
